His past teams in Major League Baseball (MLB) were the San Francisco Giants and the Los Angeles Angels. He attended Vanderbilt University during his collegiate baseball career.

During the 2012 Major League Baseball draft, the Kansas City Royals selected him in the second round of the draft. St. Andrew’s Episcopal School in Austin, Texas, is where Selman received his education.



He was selected to the all-conference team twice and earned All-American honours from the ABCA and Rawlings (2008 and 2009).

However, he did not sign with the Los Angeles Angels in Anaheim after being selected by them in the 14th round of the 2009 Major League Baseball Draft. Instead, he attended Vanderbilt University and played collegiate baseball there.

In the second round of the Major League Baseball draft in 2012, the Kansas City Royals selected him to join their organization.

From 2012 through 2018, Selman was a member of the Kansas City Royals organization as a pitcher. He signed a minor league contract with the San Francisco Giants in February 2019 and will be playing for their farm team.

The San Francisco Giants picked Selman’s contract on August 1, 2019, and immediately promoted him to play in the major leagues.
