Samuel Ayres Selman is an American professional baseball pitcher who currently plays for the Oakland Athletics of Major League Baseball.

He was born on November 14, 1990, in the United States (MLB). His past teams in Major League Baseball (MLB) were the San Francisco Giants and the Los Angeles Angels.

He attended Vanderbilt University during his collegiate baseball career. During the 2012 Major League Baseball draft, the Kansas City Royals selected him in the second round of the draft.

St. Andrew’s Episcopal School in Austin, Texas, is where Selman received his education.  He was selected to the all-conference team twice and earned All-American honours from the ABCA and Rawlings (2008 and 2009).

However, he did not sign with the Los Angeles Angels in Anaheim after being selected by them in the 14th round of the 2009 Major League Baseball Draft. Instead, he attended Vanderbilt University and played collegiate baseball there.

During the 2012 season of the Major League Baseball draft, the Kansas City Royals selected Matt Selman in the second round of available players.

Between the years 2012 and 2018, he was a member of the minor league teams affiliated with the Royals. He joined the San Francisco Giants organization in 2019 and signed a contract to play at the minor levels. On August 1, 2019, he was called up to the main leagues.
