Sam Selman is an American professional baseball pitcher for the Oakland Athletics of the Major League Baseball as of March 13, 2022. Born Samuel Ayres Selman, he had previously played for the San Franciso Giants and the Los Angeles Angels. Selman was born on November 14, 1990, and is currently 31 years old.
Selman was a student at the St.Andrew’s Episcopal School in Austin, Texas. There he was an ABCA/Rawlings All-American and two-time all-conference selection from 2008 to 2009.
In high school, he was drafted by the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in the 14th round of the 2009 Major League Baseball Draft. However, he did not sign and enrolled at Vanderbilt University where he played college baseball.
Selman was drafted by the Kansas City Royals in the 2nd round of the 2012 MLB draft signing a contract worth $750,000.During his stay at the Royals, he played for minor league teams including AZL Royals, Idaho Falls Chukars, and Omaha Storm Chasers.
On July 30, 2021, Selman was traded to the Los Angeles Angels in exchange for Tommy Waston
