As a defensive end with the Dallas Cowboys of the National Football League, Samuel Degarrick Williams, also known as Sam Williams, plays football. He measures 1.93 m in height and 118 kg in weight. He was a member of the football squad at Robert E. Lee High School while he was a student there. In 2017 and 2018, he played collegiate football at Northeast Mississippi Community College.

He transferred to the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss) for his junior and senior years. He competed for the Ole Miss Rebels in collegiate football at Ole Miss. In his debut season at Ole Miss in 2019, he participated in 12 games and recorded 38 tackles, 6 sacks, and 1 interception. In 2020, he started six of the ten games he participated in and recorded 40 tackles, 8.0 tackles for loss, and four sacks.

He broke the school record for the most sacks in a season in 2021 while playing for Ole Miss. As a senior, he was chosen for the Sporting News and Walter Camp second team All-America. He was selected for the first Southeastern Conference team, the third All-America team of the Associated Press, and the fourth All-America team of Phil Steele.

He tied the school record with 10.5 sacks, and with 57 total tackles, he broke the Rebel defensive lineman record dating back to 2018. Dallas Cowboys selected Williams with the 56th overall pick in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft.
