Santiago Roman Espinal is a Dominican professional baseball infielder who currently plays for the Toronto Blue Jays of Major League Baseball.

He was born on November 13, 1994, in the Dominican Republic (MLB). During the 2016 Major League Baseball draft, the Boston Red Sox selected him in the tenth round of available players.

The Dominican Republic is where Espinal was born and raised until he immigrated to the United States when he was 13 years old.

He spent all four of his high school years at Lyman High School in Longwood, Florida. After that, he relocated to New York, where he attended Penn Foster High School until he graduated.

Espinal received a scholarship to attend Miami Dade Collegiate and went there after attending Florida’s Seminole State College, where he played college baseball in 2016. In 2016, he graduated from Miami Dade College.

Steve Pearce and cash were dealt to Espinal on June 28, 2018, from the Dunedin Blue Jays to the Toronto Blue Jays. After the 2018 season, Espinal played in the Arizona Fall League with the Surprise Saguaros.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2020 season was postponed until July 23, 2020. On that day, he was added to the Blue Jays’ active roster.

Against the Washington Nationals, he made his Major League Baseball debut three days later. In 26 games with the 2020 Blue Jays, he slugged.267 with six runs batted in.

With 16 zone runs and a range factor of 3.13 in 2021, he was the best third baseman in the American League.
