Sean Manaea

Sean Anthony Manaea, an American pitcher for the San Diego Padres of Major League Baseball, was born on February 1, 1992. He once represented the Oakland Athletics in Major League Baseball. While attending Indiana State University, he played baseball.

Manaea was recognized as the top prospect in the Cape Cod Baseball League in 2012 while still a student at Indiana State. Manaea was drafted by the Kansas City Royals with the 34th overall choice in the 2013 MLB Draft, and he was dealt to the Athletics during the 2015 campaign.

He made his MLB debut in 2016, and on April 21, 2018, he pitched a no-hitter. Before the 2022 season, the Padres acquired Manaea from Oakland.

Faaloloi, Manaea’s father, relocated from American Samoa to Hawaii, fought in the Vietnam War, and then was posted to Indiana, where he eventually made his home. After serving in the military, Faaloloi went to work for Inland Steel.

Opal, his mother, works in a factory. Manaea has two older brothers: a full sibling and a half-brother from his father’s first marriage. Dane, one of his brothers, serves in the US Navy.
