Sean Michael Murphy (born October 4, 1994) is a Major League Baseball catcher for the Oakland Athletics.

Murphy debuted in the Arizona League Athletics, appearing in one game before being promoted to the Vermont Lake Monsters. In 22 games with Vermont, he hit.237 with two home runs and seven RBIs.

He began 2017 with the Stockton Ports before being moved to the Midland RockHounds in June; in 98 games with both organizations, he batted.250 with 13 home runs and 48 RBIs.

In 68 games with Midland in 2018, he slashed.288/.358/.498 with eight home runs and 43 RBIs.

At the end of the season, he appeared in three games for the Nashville Sounds. He started 2019 with the Las Vegas Aviators, where he hit the first home run in the history of the Las Vegas Ballpark.

Murphy’s contract was selected by the Athletics on September 1, 2019, and he was promoted to the big leagues. Murphy blasted his first career home run for his first hit against Jake Jewell on September 4 in his MLB debut.

Murphy was the A’s catcher for the bulk of the 2020 season, appearing in 43 games. He hit.233 with seven home runs and 14 RBI in 14 at-bats.

On November 7, 2021, Murphy was given his first Gold Glove Award.
