For the Kansas City Chiefs of the National Football League, Shane Buechele is the quarterback. He weighs 95 kg and is 1.83 m tall. He played high school football at Mirabeau B. Lamar High School, where he attended. During his high school career, he rushed for 6,379 yards, 1,805 yards, and 21 touchdowns. He was one of the best quarterback recruits in his class and was given a pass to the quarterback battle for the Elite 11.
There, he won the coaches over with his accuracy and finished in second place. He played collegiate football for the University of Texas at Austin’s Texas Longhorns team from 2016 to 2018. Only two games in 2018 saw him play.
He transferred to Southern Methodist University after earning his degree from Texas and played collegiate football there for the SMU Mustangs. Against Arkansas State, he played for the Mustangs for the first time this year. He completed 30 passes out of 49 attempts for 360 yards and one interception in the 37-30 victory.
After being passed over in the 2021 NFL Draft, Buechele signed on with the Kansas City Chiefs as an undrafted free agent in May of that year. He was freed on August 31, 2021. The following day, he was added to their practice squad, and on November 16, 2021, he was promoted.
