American football defensive end Shaquille Lawson, also known as Shaq Lawson in the professional sphere, plays for the Buffalo Bills of the National Football League. He was born on June 17, 1994, in Lake Wylie, South Carolina, to parents Lawrence Lawson and Rolitha Oglesby. He attended D. W. Daniel High School in Central, South Carolina.
He earned 99 tackles and nine sacks as a senior. He had 100 tackles and 13 sacks as a junior. Rivals.com rated him as a four-star talent. Lawson spent a year at Hargrave Military Academy after finishing high school before enrolling at Clemson University, where he played NCAA football for the Clemson Tigers.
In the first round of the 2016 NFL Draft, the Buffalo Bills selected him out of college with the 19th overall pick. He suffered a shoulder injury during offseason exercise, had surgery in May 2016, and missed four to six months of action. The Buffalo Bills offered him a four-year, $10.27 million contract in June 2016 that had a $5.67 million signing bonus and a $9.82 million guarantee.
In March 2020, Lawson and the Miami Dolphins reached an agreement on a three-year, $30 million deal. In March 2021, Lawson was dealt to the Houston Texans. In August 2021, the New York Jets acquired him from the Texans. In March 2022, Lawson signed a one-year contract with the Buffalo Bills.
