Sony Michel is an American football player who competes for the Los Angeles Chargers of the National Football League as a running back. He is 98 kilograms and 1.80 meters tall. Beginning in his eighth grade year at American Heritage School in Plantation, Florida, he started as running back for the American Heritage Patriots.
He carried for 1,833 yards and 24 touchdowns as a senior. He ran for 4,758 yards and 63 touchdowns while on the varsity team for three years. He received a five-star rating from Rivals.com, which also placed him as the third-best running back and the 13th-best athlete overall.
He chose to attend the University of Georgia after high school and participated in collegiate football for the Georgia Bulldogs. Michel participated in eight games as a true freshman in 2014, starting one of them. In addition to 149 receiving yards and a receiving touchdown on 22 receptions, he accumulated 840 rushing yards and four rushing touchdowns in the 2016 season.
In the opening round of the 2018 NFL Draft, the New England Patriots made him their pick. In August 2021, he was exchanged for a player by the Los Angeles Rams. During the regular season, he had 845 yards of rushing to lead the squad. The Miami Dolphins acquired him in May 2022. August 2022 saw his release. He signed with the Los Angeles Chargers that month.
