Sony Michel is an American football player who competes for the Los Angeles Chargers of the National Football League as a running back. He is 98 kilograms and 1.80 meters tall. Beginning in his eighth grade year at American Heritage School in Plantation, Florida, he started as running back for the American Heritage Patriots.

He carried for 1,833 yards and 24 touchdowns as a senior. He ran for 4,758 yards and 63 touchdowns while on the varsity team for three years. He received a five-star rating from Rivals.com, which also placed him as the third-best running back and the 13th-best athlete overall.

He chose to attend the University of Georgia after high school and participated in collegiate football for the Georgia Bulldogs. Michel participated in eight games as a true freshman in 2014, starting one of them. In addition to 149 receiving yards and a receiving touchdown on 22 receptions, he accumulated 840 rushing yards and four rushing touchdowns in the 2016 season.
