For the Washington Commanders of the National Football League, Taylor Heinicke plays quarterback professionally. He is 95 kilograms and 1.85 meters tall. He attended Collins Hill High School, where he led the team to a 10-4 record and a trip to the Class AAAAA semifinals in his junior year, earning him selection to the all-state team.

He received the Georgia Old Spice National Player of the Year award as a senior, which is given to 50 varsity football players from high schools. He obtained an athletic scholarship in 2011 to study at Old Dominion University (ODU), where he participated in football from 2011 to 2014 for the Old Dominion Monarchs.

In terms of passing yards, passing yards per game, and touchdown passes, his 2013 season statistics placed him in the top 10 FBS quarterbacks. Heinicke was a free agent after the 2015 NFL Draft, but he was not selected, and was subsequently signed by the Minnesota Vikings. In September 2017, he was added to the practice squad of the New England Patriots, but in October, he was let go.



In November 2017, he joined the practice squad of the Houston Texans, then in April 2018, the Carolina Panthers later picked him up off waivers. The Washington Commanders’ practice squad and Heinicke have a contract dating back to December 2020. In the Commanders’ victory over the Green Bay Packers in 2022, his first season, he completed a touchdown pass.
