He attended Collins Hill High School, where he led the team to a 10-4 record and a trip to the Class AAAAA semifinals in his junior year, earning him selection to the all-state team.

He received the Georgia Old Spice National Player of the Year award as a senior, which is given to 50 varsity football players from high schools. He obtained an athletic scholarship in 2011 to study at Old Dominion University (ODU), where he participated in football from 2011 to 2014 for the Old Dominion Monarchs.
