He began playing left tackle for the San Antonio Express-News during his senior year and was selected to the first team All-Area and All-District 25-6A.
He was a three-star recruit and the No. 179 offensive tackle in Texas, No. 239 overall in his class, and No. 1,844 overall prospect when he graduated from high school. He was a member of the Texas Tech University’s football team, the Texas Tech Red Raiders.
He made his redshirt freshman debut at left tackle for the first 10 games.
