For the class of 2012, he was ranked as the ninth-best long snapper in the country. He enrolled at Duke University after completing his high school education and played NCAA football there for the Duke Blue Devils from 2013 to 2016.

From 2013 to 2016, he started at quarterback in every game. During his tenure in college, he took part in 52 games, starting every single one of them, for a total of 545 snaps.
