Tom Murphy

Tom Murphy, a Major League Baseball catcher for the Seattle Mariners, is an American. His full name is Thomas James Murphy Jr. He was made in the United States, in West Monroe, New York, on April 3, 1991.

The Colorado Rockies selected Murphy with the 105th overall choice in the third round of the 2012 MLB draft. He took part in 2012 with the Tri-City Dust Devils of the Class A-Short Season Northwest League. He played in 2013 for the Asheville Tourists of the Class A South Atlantic League, where he was named SAL Hitter of the Week for the week ending May 5, 2013.

He was moved up to the Class AA Texas League’s Tulsa Drillers in the middle of the season. He began the 2015 season with the Rockies’ new Class AA affiliate, the New Britain Rock Cats of the Eastern League. He was chosen to play baseball for the American team at the 2015 Pan American Games.

After the Pan American Games, the Rockies moved Murphy up to the Class AAA Pacific Coast Albuquerque Isotopes. The Rockies promoted Murphy to the MLB on September 11, 2015. Murphy made his MLB debut on September 12 against the Seattle Mariners. He was claimed off waivers by the San Francisco Giants in March 2019.
