American football tight end Tommy Sweeney, also known as Thomas R. Sweeney, plays for the National Football League’s Buffalo Bills. He was born in Ramsey, New Jersey, in the United States on July 1, 1995. He went to Don Bosco Preparatory High School, where during his senior year he caught 27 receptions for 539 yards and five touchdowns.

For the Boston College Eagles football squad, he participated in collegiate football. Sweeney redshirted his freshman year before playing five seasons for the Boston College Eagles. He received third-team honors in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC). He played in 38 games during his college career, recording 99 receptions for 1,281 yards and 10 touchdowns.

The Buffalo Bills selected Sweeney in the seventh round of the 2019 NFL Draft. In May 2019, he penned a rookie contract with the group. In the Bills’ season opener against the New York Jets in September 2019, he made his NFL debut, catching two catches for 35 yards in a 17-16 victory.

He appeared in six games as a rookie and caught eight catches for 114 yards. On October 24, 2020, the team placed him on the reserve/COVID-19 list, then on November 11 he was reactivated to the PUP list. He was, nevertheless, sidelined for the remainder of the season after contracting myocarditis as a result of the virus.
