The Buffalo Bills selected Sweeney in the seventh round of the 2019 NFL Draft. On May 9, 2019, he penned a rookie contract with the group. On October 24, 2020, the team placed him on the reserve/COVID-19 list, then on November 11 he was reactivated to the PUP list. Sweeney should be ready for the 2021 season, according to Bills General Manager Brandon Beane’s announcement in April 2021.
When it was revealed that it had once been uncertain if he would be able to play again, he made his way back onto the field in June 2021. He grabbed his first career touchdown in a loss against the Tennessee Titans in October 2021
