Tommy Sweeney, also known as Thomas R. Sweeney, is a tight end for the Buffalo Bills of the National Football League. On July 1, 1995, he was born in Ramsey, New Jersey, in the United States. He attended Don Bosco Preparatory High School, where he caught 27 passes for 539 yards and five touchdowns in his final year. He played intercollegiate football for the Boston College Eagles team.
Sweeney played for the Boston College Eagles for five seasons after redshirting his rookie year. He was named to the third team of the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC). During his time in college, he participated in 38 games and amassed 99 receptions for 1,281 yards and 10 touchdowns.
Sweeney was chosen by the Buffalo Bills in the seventh round of the 2019 NFL Draft. He signed a rookie deal with the team in May 2019. He made his NFL debut in September 2019 when the Bills played the New York Jets in the season opener. He caught two passes for 35 yards as the Bills won 17-16.
As a rookie, he played in six games and had eight receptions for 114 yards. He was added to the reserve/COVID-19 list by the team on October 24, 2020. On November 11, he was reactivated to the PUP list. Nevertheless, the virus caused him to get myocarditis, which forced him to miss the rest of the season.
