American football punter Thomas Townsend presently punts for the National Football League’s Kansas City Chiefs.

On November 12, 1996, Townsend was born. He finished secondary school at Orlando, Florida’s William R. Boone High School.

He played for Tennessee in his rookie season of collegiate football before transferring to Florida for his sophomore campaign.

His brother Johnny is a professional punter who attended the University of Florida and punted as well. For his upcoming rookie season in 2020,

the Pro Football Writers Association has chosen Devon Townsend to be a member of their All-Rookie team. He made the first pass of his professional career on November 1 when the New York Jets were taken in by a fake punt.

He completed the 2020 season with 52 punts total, averaging 44.98 yards per punt and 2,339 net yards. Townsend had six opportunities to punt during the Chiefs’ game against the Green Bay Packers in Week 9, averaging 56.8 yards per game.

He had his second career completion on a fake punt play, which gained 16 yards. Townsend was named the November American Football Conference (AFC) Special Teams Player of the Month.

He was added to the Reserve/COVID-19 list on December 24 and activated on December 29 of the same year.
