Tony Adams Contract, Salary and Net Worth

Safety Tony Adams, who was signed by the Jets as an undrafted free agent after he was not taken in the NFL draft in April, made enough progress and impressions after signing with the Green and White to earn a spot on the team’s 53-man roster.

Adams, who is now 23 years old, was a cornerback and safety at Illinois. He was given the starting position as a freshman and went on to play for five years (four plus a COVID year), during which time he recorded 204 tackles, six interceptions, and eleven passes defended across a total of 41 games.

Although the Green and White had designated him as a safety, he stepped in at corner during OTAs after injuries reduced the number of available players at that position. The chance presented itself as a wonderful blessing. It was easier for him to acclimatize to the pace of the NFL when he started off by covering only half the field.

At the beginning of training camp, when Adams was playing safety for the first time as a full-time player, he maintained an open channel of communication with experienced safeties Jordan Whitehead and Lamarcus Joyner.

Adams recorded four solo tackles, five assisted tackles, and one takedown while playing defense for the Jets in their three preseason games. He also had one takedown while covering punt returns. Adams improved his degree of comfort playing defense, but it was his work on special teams that finally helped him earn a spot on the team’s roster.
