Richard Thomas McSorley III, also known as Trace McSorley in the football world, is a professional quarterback for the National Football League’s Arizona Cardinals. He stands 1.83 m tall and weighs 92 kg. He played high school football while attending Briar Woods High School. He guided the group to a 13-2 record and a state title in his rookie season.

He guided the team to a 15-0 record and its third consecutive state championship two seasons later, during his junior year. The Virginia Coaches Association and Virginia Preps awarded him to the First Team All-State. He received honors as a junior including First Team All-Dulles District, Offensive Player of the Year for the district, and Second Team All-Region Quarterback.

He enrolled at Pennsylvania State University after finishing high school, where he played college football from 2014 to 2018 for the Penn State Nittany Lions. A true freshman, he redshirted. In total, he played in six games as a redshirt freshman. With the 197th overall selection in the 2019 NFL Draft, the Baltimore Ravens selected McSorley in the sixth round.

The Cardinals released him on August 30, 2022, and the next day he was added to the practice squad. He was added to the roster’s active players on September 7, 2022.
