In an Astros organization brimming with talented young pitchers, he got lost in the shuffle. He was dealt to the Blue Jays in exchange for IF Aledmys Diaz at the end of the 2018 season.
That provided him with an opportunity to shine, and he did so in spring training in 2019, striking out 16 batters in 15 innings to earn a spot in the team’s starting rotation after Ryan Borucki, who had been penciled in to fill the spot, was injured.
n his first eight starts, he was winless, owing to both inconsistency and poor run support (these starts included outings when he gave up no runs twice, and 1 run and 2 runs once each, but all resulted in no-decisions).
