In the 2013 Major League Baseball Amateur Draft, the San Diego Padres selected the pitching prospect Trevor Gott in the sixth round. Mark Conner was the one in charge of scouting.

With 23 saves in one calendar year, Gott established a new record at the University of Kentucky. Gott was part of a deal that sent him from the Padres to the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim on July 21, 2014, along with Huston Street.

The Padres received Taylor Lindsey, R.J. Alvarez, Jose Rondon, and Elliot Morris in return.

On June 14, 2015, less than a year after the trade, Gott made his debut for the Angels in the major leagues by pitching a scoreless inning in relief against the Oakland A’s.

Even though he spent the first two and a half months of the year pitching for the Angels’ farm team, he still managed to make 48 appearances for the big league club, during which time he posted a record of 4-2 with a 3.02 ERA in 47 2/3 innings.

On December 11th, he was one of two players who were sent to the Washington Nationals in exchange for Yunel Escobar. The other player was Michael Brady.
