American shortstop Tyler Andrew Freeman, who plays for the Cleveland Guardians, was born on May 21, 1999.
In Etiwanda, California, Freeman went to Etiwanda High School. He hit.526 as a senior in 2017 while also swiping 18 bases and driving in 36 runs.
He was selected by the Cleveland Indians in the second round of the 2017 Major League Baseball draft following the season. In place of his promise to play collegiate baseball at Texas Christian University, he signed with the Indians.
With the Indians of the Arizona League, Freeman made his professional debut, batting.297 in 36 games. In 72 games with the Mahoning Valley Scrappers in 2018, he batted.352/.405/.511 with two home runs, 38 runs batted in, and 14 stolen bases, earning New York-Penn League All-Star recognition.
Prior to being promoted to the Lynchburg Hillcats in June, he spent the first part of 2019 playing for the Lake County Captains, for whom he was named a Midwest League All-Star.
Freeman had a batting line of.306/.368/.410 over 123 games with both teams, hitting three home runs, 44 runs batted in, and 19 stolen bases.
Due to the minor league season being postponed in 2020 as a result of the COVID-19 outbreak, Freeman did not participate in any minor league games.
Freeman played in 41 games for the Double-A Akron RubberDucks in 2021, hitting.323/.372/.470. Freeman had season-ending surgery on his left shoulder on August 9, 2021.
On November 19, 2021, the newly renamed Cleveland Guardians chose Freeman for their 40-man roster.
