The New England Patriots of the National Football League’s Jonnu Andre Smith (born August 22, 1995) plays tight end for the United States. The Tennessee Titans selected him in the third round of the 2017 NFL Draft while he was a collegiate football player at Florida International University. He signed up with the Patriots following four seasons with the Titans.

His parents, Wayne and Karen Smith reared him in North Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Out of six kids, he is the youngest. Because it was against hospital policy to wait to name a newborn, Karen felt pressured to do so after he was delivered. She had an idea for the name Jonnu after praying. When he was five years old, he started Pop Warner football.

As a young child in Philadelphia, Smith had many difficulties. His family was unable to relocate because of the costs involved after his brother was detained and one of his friends was killed on the streets. He relocated to his maternal aunt and uncle’s house in Ocala, Florida, out of concern for his own safety. Even though he was not a highly anticipated prospect when he began playing high school football, he was given a scholarship to Florida International.
