What Happened To Lucas Gilbreath?

Lucas Gilbreath is an American professional baseball pitcher for the Colorado Rockies of Major League Baseball (MLB).

The high school Gilbreath attended is Legacy High School in Broomfield, CO. This year’s 36th-round draft pick was selected by Colorado, but he chose to play collegiate baseball at the University of Minnesota instead.

In 2016, he participated in the Hyannis Harbor Hawks of the Cape Cod Baseball League is a collegiate summer baseball player. The Rockies selected him again in the 2017 MLB draft, this time in the seventh round, and he signed with them.

Grand Junction Rockies were Gilbreath’s first professional team. With the Asheville Tourists in 2018, Gilbreath had a 7-8 record and a 5.04 ERA in 116.0 innings of work, with 119 strikeouts.

This year, he was a High-A Lancaster JetHawks pitcher, going 5-10 in 28 games with a 5.81 earned run average, and striking out 143 times.

After the 2020 season, the Rockies added him to their 40-man roster. He was promoted to the majors on April 17, 2021, but was immediately optioned back to the minor leagues the following day without making an appearance.

The Colorado Rockies designated Gilbreath for assignment to Triple-A Albuquerque. In order to make room for Ryan Feltner, who was called up from Albuquerque ahead of his start in Philadelphia, he was sent down to the minors.
