Amaré Barno is an NFL defensive end for the Carolina Panthers of the National Football League. He is 1.98 m tall and weighs 111 kg. He attended Westwood High School, where he also participated in football. He was a safety at Westwood. He enrolled at Butler Community College where he played college football for the Butler Grizzlies and was shifted from safety to linebacker by the coaches after failing to meet the academic requirements to play Division I football.
He had 66 stops, 14 tackles for loss, and 4.5 sacks as a sophomore. He committed to transferring to Virginia Tech in 2018. He continued playing football at Virginia Tech with the Hokies. In 2019 for Virginia Tech, Barno played three games as an outside linebacker before sitting out the remainder of the season. He was once more moved to a different position and began his redshirt junior season at defensive end.
He finished the season with 6.5 sacks, a team-high, and led the Atlantic Coast Conference in tackles for loss with 16. In 2021, he recorded 5.5 tackles for loss and 3.5 sacks. After announcing his intent to enter the 2022 NFL Draft, he ran a faster 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine than any linebacker that year, clocking in at 4.37. The Carolina Panthers selected Barno with the 189th overall selection in the sixth round of the 2022 NFL Draft.
