In light of the fact that he skipped out on mandatory minicamp and other team activities available to the press, his absence from such events only serves to bolster his lack of interest in the squad.
But while he has yet to even take the practice fields since leaving college, he did arrive in New England with plenty of college football on his résumé.
Despite committing to the University of Michigan, the team he had cheered for his entire life, Stueber saw limited involvement in his first three years in Ann Arbor, including a redshirt season in 2019 because of an ACL tear.
However, by his junior year in 2020, he had already solidified his position as a starting offensive lineman for the club.
During his final two years of college, Stueber started 20 games. During his time with the Wolverines, he played in a total of 34 games, starting 22 of them at right tackle or right guard.
The Patriots drafted Stueber and immediately negotiated a conventional four-year contract with him; however, only the fully guaranteed $20,900 signing bonus prorated for the 2022 season is presently being counted against the team’s salary cap.
After all, his total cap number does not meet the requirements for Top-51 designation and will only become significant during the regular season. Including his $705,0000 salary would push the cap hit up to $725,900 if he is still on the 53-man roster at that time.
