The Miami Dolphins had a busy week when it came to contract negotiations and salary cap problems.
Andrew Van Ginkel was a pleasant surprise for the Miami Dolphins defense last season.
In 2020, the Wisconsin athlete, then in his second year, had something of a breakout season, starting 11 of the team’s 16 contests in head coach Brian Flores’ takeaway-generating defense.
Van Ginkel played a role in the team’s advantage in turnovers thanks to his three forced fumbles, 5.5 sacks, and a 78-yard touchdown reception. He was a perfect fit for Miami’s defensive systems, thus he should be among the starting linebackers again in 2021.
After Myles Gaskin, Van Ginkel will have the lowest salary of any starter on the club. As a result of the Dolphins’ late-round draft positioning, one of their starting outside linebackers will earn only $850k in 2021.
He will also have a relatively cheap season on the books. Even if youngster Jaelan Phillips’ exceptional pass rush abilities will put pressure on him, Van Ginkel should still produce enough to be considered one of the prized contracts.
How Much Does Andrew Van Ginkel Make?
Andrew Van Ginkel has a salary that is around $707,695 per year on average. Van Ginkel is scheduled to receive a base salary of $2,540,000 in 2022, while also being subject to a cap hit of $2,617,695
