In exchange for minor league pitchers Jio Orozco and Juan De Paula, the Seattle Mariners acquired Gamel from the New York Yankees on August 31, 2016. Gamel hit.275/.323/.413 with 11 home runs and 59 RBI in 509 at-bats for Seattle in 2017. Over 257 at-bats in 101 games for the Mariners in 2018, Gamel hit.272/.358/.370 with one homer and 19 RBI.

Gamel and Noah Zavolas were dealt to the Milwaukee Brewers on December 21, 2018, in exchange for Domingo Santana.



Gamel hit.248/.337/.373 with seven home runs and 33 RBI in 311 at-bats for the Brewers in 2019. In 114 at-bats, Gamel hit.237/.315/.404 with three home runs and ten RBI in 40 games in 2020. Gamel became a free agent after the Brewers declined to contract him on December 2, 2020.

Gamel signed a minor league deal with the Cleveland Indians organization on February 11, 2021, which included a Spring Training invitation. On March 27, 2021, the Indians chose Gamel for a contract. On May 5, 2021, Gamel was reassigned.

The Pittsburgh Pirates picked up Gamel off waivers on May 9, 2021. Gamel hit.255/.352/.399 with eight home runs and 26 RBIs in 111 games with the Pirates.
