During his first season at Michigan, Mason participated in every game on special teams and also scored two touchdowns on the ground as a fullback.

He had a lot of playing time as a fullback as a sophomore and ran for 80 yards and seven touchdowns on 33 runs, added one reception for 15 yards, and made seven special teams stops.
