Baseball pitcher Bryan Garcia represents the Detroit Tigers in the National League as a member of the American Professional Baseball League (AMPL).
This year, he made his MLB debut with the Tigers. Garcia was a starting pitcher for the baseball team at Christopher Columbus High School in Miami, Florida, also known as the Lawn Mower.
With an 8–1 record and an earned run average of 1.23, he was a senior in 2013 with an 8–1 record (ERA). After graduating from high school,
he was not taken in the 2013 MLB draft and decided to attend the University of Miami to pursue a career in baseball.
His record of 18 saves in a season was the best in Miami history, and he earned the NCBWA Stopper of the Year Award in 2016 as a relief pitcher.
In the 2016 MLB draft, the Detroit Tigers chose Garcia in the sixth round with the 175th overall pick. Garcia missed the entire 2018 season after rupturing his ulnar collateral ligament in February of that year and undergoing Tommy John surgery.
He returned to the minors in May of this year, playing for Lakeland, Erie and Toledo. He was promoted to the main leagues in September 2019.
The Detroit Sports Media Association honoured Garcia with their 2020 Rookie of the Year Award.
