Carter lined up at tight end, H-back, and fullback while playing high school football at Archbishop Rummel High School in Metairie, Louisiana.

In his senior year of 2012, he caught 23 receptions for 418 yards and five touchdowns, receiving Honorable Mention All-State recognition.
