He participated in both basketball and football for the Panthers at Central Dauphin East High School. After graduating from high school, he played football for the Fordham Rams while attending Fordham University. He participated for Fordham as a player from 2014 to 2017.

He gained 1838 yards on 294 carries for 23 touchdowns in 14 games as a rookie, averaging 6.3 yards per rush. His other accomplishments were 19 receptions for 121 yards and a touchdown. Edmonds was taken 134th overall by the Arizona Cardinals in the fourth round of the 2018 NFL Draft. On May 11, 2018, he signed his rookie contract. He started the first nine games, but a horrific ankle injury occurred in Week 9. In March 2022, he signed a two-year, $12.6 million contract with the Miami Dolphins.
