In 2018, the High-A Lake Elsinore Storm welcomed Paddack back to the mound. It took him 52 innings with the Storm before he was promoted to the minor league San Antonio Missions.
Pitching to an ERA of just 1.91 in 38 innings for the Missions before being shut down due to innings restrictions, he was even better. His name was later added to the Padres’ 40-man roster.
To secure a spot in the Padres’ starting rotation for the 2019 season, Paddack had an impressive 3-1 record and 1.76 ERA in five spring training appearances.
The San Francisco Giants were his first opponent as he made his major league debut on March 31st, 2019. During his five innings of work, he gave up one run while striking out seven batters.
As a result, he was optioned to Lake Elsinore on June 12, 2019, in order to reduce the number of innings he pitched this season. On June 22, he was recalled.
An impressive 9-7 record and 3.33 earned run average was Paddack’s achievements in 2019. He fanned 153 times in 140+2/3 innings of work.
