He played football at Southern University Laboratory School, where he was voted the Class 1A Defensive MVP after finishing his senior year with 82 tackles, 14 tackles for loss, and six sacks.

He went to the University of Alabama where he played collegiate football for the Alabama Crimson Tide. As a freshman, he participated in seven games, recording six stops and one tackle for loss. In addition, he added two quarterback hurries and one caused turnover.
