When the New York Jets signed wide receiver Corey Davis as a free agent on Monday, they supposedly improved their passing offense.

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the parties reached an agreement on a $37.5 million, three-year contract with $27 million guaranteed.

With great expectations after being selected No. 5 overall in the 2017 NFL Draft, Davis struggled to establish a routine throughout his first three seasons with the Tennessee Titans.

The wide receiver had 42 appearances between 2017 and 2019, totaling 1,867 receiving yards with six touchdowns and an average of 44.5 yards per game.

He finished the year with 65 catches for a career-high 984 yards and five touchdowns, averaging 70.3 yards per game, making a significantly bigger impact in 2020. In his first three years, he only exceeded 100 yards in a game twice; last year, he did so five times.

For the Titans, the 27-year-old also demonstrated his capacity to make pivotal plays:

Davis had a significant role in the club finishing tied for second in the NFL in terms of yards from scrimmage last season, despite Derrick Henry frequently being the offensive focal point.

With New York, he will now try to maintain his output in 2021 and beyond while giving Sam Darnold or whoever is in charge of the offense another weapon.

Davis continues to raise issues, most notably the inconsistency that was seen throughout his career. He has three games with no catches, including the postseason defeat to the Baltimore Ravens, even in 2020.

After accepting the most recent offer, his new team will hope there are more advantages than disadvantages.
