Knebel, Corey Andrew, is a Major League Baseball pitcher for the Philadelphia Phillies. He was a member of the Detroit Tigers, Milwaukee Brewers, and Los Angeles Dodgers in Major League Baseball.



Knebel grew up in Bastrop County, Texas, and was born in Denton, Texas to Jeffrey and Melissa Knebel. He was a three-year letter winner and a former district MVP in baseball at Bastrop High School.

He was also a basketball player for the school. He is a Georgetown High School alumni, having transferred there for his final year.



Knebel attended the University of Texas in 2011 and was a member of the Texas Longhorns baseball team.

As a freshman, he became the Longhorns’ closer and tied J. Brent Cox and Charlie Thames for the most saves in a single season (19).

The NBCWA and Collegiate Baseball Magazine named him the NCBWA Stopper of the Year and Freshman of the Year. Knebel was named to the First Team All-American and All-Big 12 Conference teams.

Knebel was the Longhorn closer once again in 2012, ending the season with nine saves and a 2.08 ERA.

Despite not being able to duplicate his freshman season’s achievements, he was named first-team All-Big 12 once again.

Knebel was suspended from the Longhorns twice in 2013, once for breaking team rules and the other for supplying a urine sample to assist a teammate in overcoming a drug test.
