He was born in the United States (MLB). In 2021, he made his Major League Baseball debut. Ray went to Simeon Career Academy in Chicago, Illinois, to further his education.

He competed in 2012 Under Armour All-American Game during the summer before his senior year in high school.

In addition, he was drafted for the U.S. collegiate national team following the season.
