The New York Jets improved their cornerback depth early in the free agency period by reaching an agreement with D.J. Reed for a contract worth $33 million over three years.



Rich Cimini of ESPN reported that when Reed signed his contract, the agreement guaranteed him a salary of $10.5 million. This estimate is derived from Reed’s signing bonus of $9.465 million and his base salary of $1.035 million in the year 2022.

Reed is going to have cap charges of $4.6 million, $14.2 million, and then $4.6 million over the course of the next three seasons. Reed’s current contract is set to become a one-year agreement worth $11 million with a cap charge of $6.3 million if the Jets decide to release him after just one season.



According to Over The Cap, Reed will make $10.5 million in basic salary in both 2023 and 2024.

Reed, who is 25, is coming off of a banner year in his career. The former Seahawk established a new high water mark for his career by starting 14 games, intercepting 10 passes, and making 78 tackles.

Reed also intercepted two passes, which tied his career-best for interceptions.

Reed, who was selected by the 49ers in the fifth round in 2018, earned a grade of 78.6 from Pro Football Focus at the conclusion of the 2021 season.
