Williams started off his football career at a young age. He went to El Cajon Valley High School for his freshman year and participated in the varsity sports program there.

Following his freshman year, he transferred to Mira Mesa Senior High School, where he continued his football career for the next three years.

Williams had the potential to play collegiate football at Arizona State, but he did not get the required score on the ACT exam. His playing career began at Arizona Western College, and he eventually transferred to the University of Oklahoma.

In November 2013, he was kicked off the Oklahoma team for breaking the rules, which led to his dismissal.

During his two years with the Sooners, he rushed for a total of 1,499 yards and 18 touchdowns, the longest of which was a run of 95 yards, and came against Texas in 2012.
