He played his college football at Western Kentucky. Before going to Cedar Grove High School, Malone attended Martin Luther King Jr. High School. In Ellenwood, Georgia, he was raised.
During his first season as a starter for the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers, Malone racked up 25 tackles, 1.5 sacks, and five quarterback hurries.
He finished the season as a sophomore with 60 tackles, nine tackles for loss, six sacks, eight quarterback hurries, and two forced fumbles, earning him honorable mention All-Conference USA recognition.

The Atlanta Falcons selected Malone with the 82nd overall choice in the third round of the 2022 NFL Draft. In the deal that sent Matt Ryan to the Indianapolis Colts, the pick was previously acquired by the Falcons.
