In order to acquire wide receiver DeVante Parker from the Miami Dolphins, the New England Patriots had to find a method to free up some space under the NFL’s salary cap.
According to a story that was published on Wednesday by Field Yates of ESPN, the Patriots changed roughly $3 million of defensive end Deatrich Wise’s base salary into a signing bonus.
This action created approximately $2 million in additional salary cap flexibility for the team.
The Patriots were able to accommodate Parker’s $6 million cap charge because of this conversion. Tuesday marked the official completion of the transaction with the Dolphins.
Parker is currently under the terms of a contract that is very favorable to the team. He is scheduled to receive a salary of approximately $5.6 million for each of the following two years, in addition to a cap hit of approximately $6 million for the same time period.
That is a very reasonable price for a player of his quality.
The only legitimate concern with Parker is his level of toughness. Since being drafted in 2015, he has only participated in one complete season. When at full strength, Parker is a reliable deep threat who has led the league in contested catches since the year 2019
According to OverTheCap’s data, the Patriots now have the second-smallest amount of salary cap room of any team in the league.
How Much Does DeVante Parker Make?
DeVante Parker makes an average of $7,625,000 per year. Parker’s base salary in 2022 will be $5,650,000. He will also get a roster bonus of $275,720 and a workout bonus of $100,000.
