He was born on November 12, 1997. His college football career at Clemson. In 2015, he graduated from Wake Forest High School in Wake Forest, where he played football throughout his high school career.

In the incoming Class of 2016 for college football, he was listed as the second-best recruit overall. Wake Forest High School was where Lawrence spent all four years of his high school athletic career.

During his tenure playing football for his high school, he recorded 28.0 sacks, 204 tackles, 6 forced fumbles, and one interception.

It was widely believed that Lawrence was the most talented athlete to ever hail from the state of North Carolina.

He gave several institutions, including the Clemson Tigers, the Florida Gators, the Alabama Crimson Tide, and the NC State Wolfpack some thought, but ultimately decided to attend NC State.

At the end of the day, he decided to sign with Clemson. The Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) has recognized Dexter Lawrence as its Defensive Rookie of the Year for 2016.

During the course of the regular season, he finished with a total of 55 tackles and 5 sacks. Clemson won the 2017 College Football Playoff National Championship, and Lawrence was a member of the Clemson team that won the game against Alabama.
