Eric John Hosmer (born October 24, 1989) is a Major League Baseball first baseman for the San Diego Padres. He was a member of the Kansas City Royals from 2011 to 2017.
Hosmer, a highly ranked talent out of American Heritage High School in Florida, was described by scouts as a “left-handed batter with raw power.”
He was taken third overall in the 2008 MLB draft by the Royals, and he received a $6 million signing bonus. He progressed through Minor League Baseball before making his MLB debut in 2011.
After hitting.293 with 19 home runs in 128 games in 2011, he finished third in the Rookie of the Year voting. Hosmer received consecutive Gold Glove Awards from 2013 to 2015, as well as the Silver Slugger Award in 2017.
He was the MVP of the 2016 MLB All-Star Game and a member of the World Series-winning 2015 team. Hosmer became a free agent after the 2017 season and signed an eight-year deal with the San Diego Padres.
