Moreno was signed by the Blue Jays in August 2016 for under $25,000 out of Venezuela, and he has since developed into one of the game’s most promising catching prospects.



He first caught the attention of outside scouts in his age-18 season, when he hit .413 in a 23-game span in the Gulf Coast League, necessitating a move away from the facility.

In 2019, he had a solid performance at Class A Lansing, and a year later, he was a star at the alternate training location.



Last summer, he hit .373/.441/.651 with eight homers in 32 games at Double-A New Hampshire before being cut short due to a fractured left thumb.

He recovered in time for the Arizona Fall League and a brief stint in the Venezuelan Winter League when he topped the circuit in doubles.

Behind the plate, Moreno has also shown promise. The 22-year-old, who was an infielder at the time of his signing, uses his athleticism to block, catch, and throw.

He has an above-average arm and a rapid release, allowing him to dominate the running game, as he did last year with a 40% caught-stealing rate.

Moreno spent some time in the AFL at third base, but his potential as an All-Star at the plate is enormous.
