Allen was a student at Chula Vista’s Hilltop High School. He subsequently went on to San Diego State University, where he played three seasons of collegiate baseball for the Aztecs. In 2013, he was a member of the Orleans Firebirds of the Cape Cod Baseball League’s summer collegiate baseball team.
