Elliott’s college career was excellent, but he was not selected in the draft and had to look for a team through free agency. He did discover one when the Detroit Lions selected him soon after the draft.

He alternated between the team’s active roster and practice squad during the following two years, playing in eight games in the process.

He was ultimately fired by the company in May 2022 after going over three months without a contract before signing with the Patriots at the start of training camp.

This week, Elliott was signed by the Patriots to a one-year free agent contract. The agreement is rather simple. He will be paid an $825,000 base salary, with no further bonuses or promises.

Elliott’s contract doesn’t now affect New England’s strategy because his cap figure isn’t high enough to qualify for Top-51 designation, and it only will if he joins the active roster.
