Jaylon Smith plays linebacker in the National Football League for the New York Giants. He is 109 kg and 1.88 m tall. He played football when a student at Bishop Luers High School, where he also received the Butkus Award, given to the nation’s top high school linebacker, and was recognized as Indiana’s Mr. Football.
After graduating from high school, he enrolled at the University of Notre Dame and played collegiate football for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, an intercollegiate football team. He participated in all 13 games as a freshman and finished with 67 tackles, 6.5 of which were for loss, one forced fumble, three pass breakups, and one interception.
His junior season in 2015 saw him play in all 13 games, compiling 115 tackles, nine tackles for loss, two fumble recoveries, and one forced fumble. During the second round of the 2016 NFL Draft, the Dallas Cowboys selected Smith. He made his professional regular season debut and first start of his career in the Dallas Cowboys’ 2017 season opener. With seven total tackles and a fumble recovery, he finished the game.
In October 2021, he signed up with the Green Bay Packers before being fired in November. Beginning in December 2021, Smith was a member of the New York Giants’ practice squad. In September 2022, he signed a new contract and became a member of the New York Giants’ practice squad. His promotion to the active roster occurred in October 2022.
