Jerick McKinnon was invited to the 2014 NFL Scouting Combine, where he increased his profile by finishing second among running backs in the 40-yard dash with marks of 4.38 and 4.35 in the unofficial time and 4.41 in the official time.

He also had the most bench press repetitions of any running back, 32. He also displayed his physical strength by jumping 11’0″ (3.35 m) in the broad jump and 40.5 inches in the vertical leap (1.03 m).

Only four other athletes at the NFL Combine could jump higher than 40.5 inches, and McKinnon also had some of the fastest running back marks in the short-shuttle (6.83 seconds) and three-cone drill (6.83 seconds) (4.12 seconds).

McKinnon completed 32 bench press reps at the NFL Scouting Combine, the most of any active NFL running back.

The Minnesota Vikings selected McKinnon 96th overall in the third round of the 2014 NFL Draft. He was chosen that year as the seventh running back. The selection was acquired in 2013 as part of the Percy Harvin trade to Seattle.
