He played 44 games for the Arizona League Indians in 2019, hitting.325 with one home run and 18 runs batted in. Due to the minor league season’s discontinuation in 2020, he did participate in a game.

Tena played with the Lake County Captains for the entire 2021 season, slashing.281/.331/.467 across 107 games with 16 home runs and 58 runs batted.

He played for the Scottsdale Scorpions in the Arizona Fall League after the season and won the batting title there with a.387 average over 17 games.

On November 19, 2021, Tena was added to the 40-man roster of the newly renamed Cleveland Guardians.

According to Matt Kardos of MLB.com, Tena was left off of Double-A Akron’s starting lineup on Thursday for an undisclosed reason. Tena was 0 for 6 with two strikeouts over the last two games, so it’s unclear why he was pulled from the lineup so late on Thursday.

He participated in over 51 games with Akron this year, hitting 275/.301/.382 with two home runs, 30 runs, 18 RBI, and six stolen bases.
